BAUHAUS STRIPES
Inspired by an Anni Albers tapestry from the Bauhaus. The Bauhaus was a mixture of school, workshop, studio and laboratory founded in 1919 by Walter Gropius in Germany. Gropius and the artists and designers who worked and taught there brought about a marriage between art and industry that was a major influence on design in the 20th century.

The machine stitched carpets are produced on a computerised sewing machine.
The machine has a maximum stitching size of 6 x 7.75 ins and 28 stitches per ins. This means that some of the larger carpets cannot be machine stitched.
Because they are stitched in machine embroidery cotton the colours may not match the hand stitched carpets exactly.
Even on a sewing machine the larger carpets take up to 14 hours to stitch and involve constant monitoring and the cutting of thread floats between stitching each colour.
