| HOLBEIN - LARGE PATTERN This design of carpet was woven in Anatolia from at least the early 15th century. In this country they became named after the painter Hans Holbein (c1497-1543) who depicted such a carpet in his painting THE AMBASSADORS (1533). These carpets were used on tables as they were very expensive. |
